Dependent Care FSA ("HCFSA") FAQs for Employees

What is a Depedent Care FSA ("DCFSA")?

An DCFSA is an opt-in employee benefit sponsored by your company. They're helping you save money on your essential expenses! If you pay for dependent care, a DCFSA can help you pay for those using contributions from your pay before taxes are deducted, meaning you're saving on income taxes.

What can I use an DCFSA on?

Common eligible expenses include:

  • Care for your child who is age 12 or under:
    • Preschool, nursery, and daycare
    • Before and after school programs
    • Nanny and au pair services
    • Day summer camps
    • Transportation provided by licensed care providers
  • Care for your child age 13 or over, your spouse, or a relative who is physically and/or mentally incapable of basic self-care and lives in your home

Why should I use the DCFSA?

Because paying for child care and/or adult care is expensive. You can immediately save 20-40% (depending on your tax bracket) on these essential expenses! The money you set aside for the DCFSA is not taxed. Therefore, you're not paying federal income taxes, state taxes, Social Security tax, Medicare tax... none of the taxes on the amount you elect for your DCFSA. At Benepass, we're all about keeping more of your hard-earned money. 💰
